Handwriting Tutoring Now Avaliable!!!!
Method Used
Our handwriting tutoring is based on the award winning curriculum Handwriting Without Tears®. Handwriting Without Tears ® is a complete handwriting curriculum for children of all ages. It was developed by Jan Z. Olsen, an Occupational Therapist whose goal was to make handwriting a natural and automatic skill for all children regardless of age and learning style. The curriculum was awarded the 2008 Winner of Best Language Arts Workbooks. Handwriting Without Tears® is a developmentally appropriate curriculum that offers multisensory instruction that appears to appeal to all styles of learning.
Why it Works?
Handwriting Without Tears® uses a different order to teach handwriting and has been very successful in doing so because it follows a developmental teaching sequence. We begin with teaching capital letters first and then proceed with letters in groups of similar stroke sequence when learning print. When teaching cursive the order is reversed: lowercase first and then capitals. When students master easier skills, they are better prepared to learn more difficult groups—those prone to reversals or having diagonal lines. As a result, children gain mastery and confidence more quickly and can focus on the content of their work rather than the mechanics of letter formation. The HWT teaching order results in writing that is fluid, legible, and automatic.
What Assessment Is Used to Determine My Child's Individual Handwriting Needs?
The Print Tool™ is a complete printing assessment for students age six and older.
